Capital Police Set Safety Checks for Sunday Anti-Extremism Rally in Victory Square

On Sunday, 20 September, the Jandarmeria Capitalei will oversee a protest themed around stopping extremism and violence in the central area of Victory Square. The event runs from 17:30 to 22:00, with arrivals expected by 18:00 and speeches scheduled until 21:30. To ensure public order, safety filters will be installed on all approaches to the square, and individuals carrying large luggage may be subject to verification.

Teams of gendarmerie officers wearing identifiable blue vests will be present to facilitate dialogue and monitor the crowd. Organizers reminded participants that firearms, explosive or incendiary materials, irritant chemicals, stun devices and any objects usable for violent acts are strictly forbidden. Conducting a simultaneous counter-demonstration at the same location is classified as a contravention and may result in a fine.

Authorities also warned that traffic around Victory Square might be restricted or diverted, urging drivers to seek alternative routes. The protest comes five days after earlier unrest in the same square, during which protestors threw objects at police, prompting the use of tear gas and water cannons; subsequently, 47 individuals were escorted to police stations, three criminal dossiers were opened and 24 sanctions were imposed.
