Captain and Pilot Charged in Fatal Collision Between Cargo Ship and Leisure Boat
The captain and pilot of the cargo vessel Misje Verde face charges in Göteborg district court for a collision that killed a mother and her daughter on a small motorboat.
A Norwegian-registered cargo ship, Misje Verde, was traveling from Uddevalla to Kragerø when it failed to notice a leisure motorboat that appeared clearly on radar, according to the Haverikommissionen. The impact killed a woman and her young daughter, while the father and son survived. The ship’s Russian commander and a Swedish pilot have been indicted for causing death, causing injury and reckless navigation, and both deny wrongdoing. Their trial begins Thursday in Göteborgs tingsrätt.
