Cardiff hotels fill up as December fight date for Joshua vs. Fury looms
Hotels across Cardiff are fully booked as a December 12 showdown between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury appears imminent.
Speculation that the heavyweight clash between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury will take place in Cardiff is narrowing on December 12, with the venue expected to be the Principality Stadium. The prospect has driven a surge in bookings, leaving the city’s Marriott, Holiday Inn, Hilton and other hotels without rooms for the night. Even the Welsh Rugby Union’s Parkgate hotel, adjacent to the stadium, reports full occupancy.
The event would require a licence variation to push the start time to 2 a.m. UK time, a process overseen by Cardiff Council’s Licensing Sub-Committee. Netflix is set to broadcast the fight, and the contract obliges the bout to occur in the United Kingdom. Dana White, the UFC chief, expressed frustration at repeated questioning about the match during a press conference.
Why it matters
The fight could generate significant tourism revenue for Cardiff and requires regulatory approval for a late-night event.
