Casey Affleck Says Both Parents Passed Away This Year Ahead of Venice Premiere
Oscar winner Casey Affleck disclosed that his mother and father both died this year, dedicating his new film Gothic to them at the Venice Film Festival.
During a press event at the Venice Film Festival, Casey Affleck announced that both of his parents died within months of each other this year. His mother, Chris Anne Affleck, aged 83, lost a battle with pancreatic cancer in June, while his father, Timothy Affleck, an aspiring playwright who once performed with the Theater Company of Boston alongside Dustin Hoffman and Robert Duvall, also passed away earlier. Casey said the tragedy prompted him to dedicate his new film Gothic to them, though he never had the chance to screen it for them.
He expressed that he believes they would have enjoyed the movie. The brothers, Ben and Casey, have been described as taking the losses "really hard" by a source. Their mother had previously survived a six-month prognosis to see her grandson graduate before dying two days after the ceremony.
