Casey's gas stations surge to fifth-largest pizza chain in the United States
Casey's, a Midwestern convenience-store chain, has become the fifth-largest pizza seller in the country, overtaking major chains in many small markets.
According to Bank of America analysis, Casey’s convenience-store chain has climbed to the fifth spot among U.S. pizza purveyors, operating over 3,000 stores in 19 states. Chief merchandising officer Tom Brennan said the brand’s rapid growth is eroding market share from established pizza chains. Casey’s differentiates itself with on-site ovens and a menu of scratch-made pies featuring unconventional toppings such as taco and breakfast sausage-gravy varieties, which have gone viral on TikTok and YouTube.
The chain’s pizzas cost about $13.99, a significant discount compared with the roughly $20 price points of Domino’s, Papa John’s and Pizza Hut, offering value to inflation-pressed consumers. A large share of Casey’s outlets sit in small towns lacking other national pizza brands, giving it a competitive edge, and the company plans to push further into Texas, a market ten times larger than its home state of Iowa.
Why it matters
Casey's rise reshapes the fast-food pizza market, offering cheaper options and challenging established chains.
