Castile and León minister challenges PSOE leader to oppose regional financing reform
Castile and León’s economy minister Carlos Fernández Carriedo urged PSOE secretary Carlos Martínez to instruct his deputies to reject the new autonomous financing model if it reaches the Congress.
In a press briefing following the Council of Government, Carlos Fernández Carriedo, spokesperson for the Junta of Castilla y León and regional economy minister, challenged PSOE’s national secretary Carlos Martínez to give clear instructions to his parliamentary group to vote against the upcoming autonomous financing reform. Carriedo noted that the reform, designed by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez together with ERC leader Oriol Junqueras, has been opposed by the majority of Spain’s regions.
He said the regional government will either stop the reform from reaching the parliament or ensure it is not passed, describing the model as detrimental for a broad majority. The minister also urged parties supporting the reform to prioritize regional interests over party orders and highlighted that Finance Minister Arcadi Espada dismissed regional objections. Finally, Carriedo called on the central government to abandon one outlet proposal, start anew, and engage in genuine negotiations.
