Castilla-La Mancha leader slams Sánchez's remarks on King’s reign and calls for restraint

In an interview on Antena 3’s Espejo Público, Castilla-La Mancha President Emiliano García-Page condemned Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s recent remarks about King Felipe VI, calling them “very inappropriate” and “unjust”. Sánchez had suggested the monarch had been on the throne for twenty years, a figure García-Page corrected to twelve, and criticized the king for not visiting the autonomous city. García-Page highlighted the king’s participation in a Toledo exhibition on Spain’s contribution to the United States, describing the event as a source of regional pride.

He argued that the monarch’s measured conduct is essential in today’s “populist, lamentable” political environment and urged Sánchez to be mindful of body language that may reveal deeper issues. The regional president hinted that the friction may stem from a joint visit to Paiporta after the Valencia floods and reiterated the king’s need for caution in matters like the Ceuta situation. He also warned that Donald Trump remains a significant global danger, though he declined to comment further on the U.S. president’s statements.
