Catalonia poll shows Aliança tied with PSC, Vox overtakes Junts and PP

A new Ipsos poll indicates Aliança Catalana would match PSC seats, while Vox would move ahead of Junts and the PP.

An Ipsos poll of Catalan voters released Sunday suggests a fragmented political landscape ahead of any possible snap regional election. Both the Socialist Party of Catalonia (PSC) and the newly rising Aliança Catalana, led by Sílvia Orriols, are projected to secure 30 seats each, giving them equal parliamentary weight. Republican party ERC would obtain 23 seats, while far-right Vox is expected to capture 18 seats, moving ahead of Junts (16) and the centre-right PP (11).

The separatist parties together would command a solid majority of 72 seats, though ERC, Junts and the CUP have indicated they would block any coalition with Aliança Catalana. The poll also highlights a significant loss for Junts, which would drop 19 seats, and a reduction for the PP, falling to 11 seats from its earlier standing.

Why it matters

The poll reveals shifting support that could reshape Catalonia's parliament and influence Spain's broader political dynamics.

How the sides frame it

HIGH AGREEMENT

Both camps report the same Ipsos poll numbers, but centrist coverage frames the story as Aliança Catalana breaking the historic duopoly and forcing new coalition calculations, while right-leaning coverage highlights the tie with PSC, Vox overtaking Junts and PP, and the separatist bloc’s majority.

CENTER

Centrist coverage presents Aliança Catalana’s surge as a challenge to the long-standing duopoly and stresses the need for new cross-ideological alliances to ensure governability.

RIGHT

Right-leaning coverage emphasizes the seat tie between Aliança and PSC, left-leaning coverage’s jump ahead of Junts and PP, and the separatist parties’ solid majority that could block coalitions with Aliança.

The right emphasises

  • Aliança tied with PSC at 30 seats each
  • Vox expected to capture 18 seats, moving ahead of Junts and PP
  • separatist parties together would command a solid majority of 72 seats
