CBDT urges 12,000 tax advisers to submit pending audit reports by Oct 21
The Central Board of Direct Taxes has contacted about 12,000 tax professionals, reminding them to file outstanding audit reports for assessment year 2026-27 before the extended deadline of October 21.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes has expanded its SAKSHAM NUDGE initiative to target roughly 12,000 tax professionals who have lagged in filing audit reports for the 2026-27 assessment year. Using data analytics, the department identified advisers who filed fewer than 50 % of the reports they submitted in the prior financial year and sent them reminder SMSes and emails. While the deadline for audit reports was initially set for September 30, it has been extended to October 21, but a sizable number of filings are still pending.
To date, over 19.5 lakh audit reports have been lodged, yet the department stresses that completing the remaining submissions is crucial for accurate tax assessment. The campaign reflects a broader strategy to boost compliance through targeted guidance rather than enforcement alone. A CBDT official highlighted the essential role of tax professionals in ensuring businesses meet their audit obligations.
