CBI charges husband and mother-in-law in model Twisha Sharma's suicide case

The CBI filed a chargesheet in Bhopal accusing Samarth Singh and his mother Giribala Singh of mental abuse that led to model Twisha Sharma’s suicide.

The Central Bureau of Investigation submitted a chargesheet in a Bhopal court charging Twisha Sharma’s husband, Samarth Singh, and his mother, retired district judge Giribala Singh, with subjecting the 34-year-old model-turned-actor to mental and psychological torture that resulted in her suicide by hanging on May 12. The document details a frantic series of phone calls and a final WhatsApp message to sister-in-law Rashi Abrol in which Sharma wrote, “let me die in peace right now.”

AIIMS Delhi’s post-mortem determined death by asphyxia from a gymnastic belt, with no evidence of assault. CCTV footage allegedly shows Sharma moving toward the terrace before a last call to her father, during which she described Samarth’s aggression. After her body was found, Samarth reported the hanging to authorities, and the FIR recorded the incident. The chargesheet invokes the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions on cruelty by a husband or relatives, abetment of suicide and common intention, while forensic extraction of phone data and additional CCTV remains pending.
