CBI nabbed long-wanted fodder-scam suspect Satyendra Kumar at Lucknow station
The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested Satyendra Kumar, a proclaimed offender in Bihar’s fodder scam, after tracking him from Nepal and detaining him at Lucknow railway station.
After a quarter-century on the run, Satyendra Kumar was captured by the Central Bureau of Investigation at Lucknow railway station. Kumar had been listed as a proclaimed offender in a 2001 charge sheet related to Bihar’s extensive fodder scam, which involved alleged fraudulent withdrawals of roughly ₹950 crore from the undivided Bihar treasury in the early 1990s. Persistent surveillance and intelligence work traced his whereabouts to Nepal, and he later traveled by train from Guna in Madhya Pradesh to Lucknow.
A dedicated CBI unit positioned itself at the station and arrested him shortly after midnight. The agency said he will be transferred to Ranchi on transit remand, but did not specify his exact involvement in the scam. The case is part of the broader investigation that also led to the conviction of Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav in several related fodder-scam cases.
Why it matters
The arrest ends a 25-year manhunt and signals renewed enforcement in one of India's largest corruption scandals.
