CBI uncovers 21 compromised transfers and 11 policy tweaks in Punjab corruption probe
The CBI says it has evidence of at least 21 senior Punjab officials whose transfers were manipulated, alongside eleven policy changes linked to the cash-for-postings scandal.
A day before the Supreme Court is set to consider a plea restricting its inquiry into alleged wrongdoing by OSD Rajbir Singh Ghuman, the CBI disclosed proof of at least 21 senior Punjab government and police officers whose transfers were allegedly compromised. The evidence, gathered during the cash-for-postings investigation, also identifies eleven policy alterations, including attempts to sway transport policy and administrative rulings.
The FIR notes that Nitin Gohal sought an arms licence from a senior IPS officer and placed his brother Jitin in the Chief Minister's Office to act as a go-between. Gohal, questioned by the Enforcement Directorate, is further tied to the purchase of an industrial plot in Mohali and to repeated lobbying by rice-milling entrepreneur R S Nagra for official transfers. Additional findings mention the suspension of a Sangrur jail officer and a push to move a senior cop from the anti-gangster task force. The case underscores a network of administrative favours and tender manipulations across Punjab.
