CBRE Survey Shows Strong Office Expansion Plans Among Indian Companies
A CBRE survey of over 200 senior executives indicates that 77% of Indian firms intend to grow their office space in the next two years, driven by demand in tech, BFSI and manufacturing sectors.
According to CBRE’s 2026 India Office Occupier Survey, which gathered input from more than 200 CXOs, 77% of occupiers anticipate expanding their office portfolios over the next two years, reflecting confidence in demand despite global uncertainties. The expansion outlook is buoyed by continued business growth, the proliferation of Global Capability Centres, and rising needs from technology, BFSI, engineering and manufacturing firms, with roughly 30% of companies planning significant footprint increases.
Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune and Chennai are expected to retain their appeal for large-scale office projects, while 65% of firms eyeing Tier-II and Tier-III cities cite emerging talent pools as a key factor. Although 93% of respondents report some stage of AI adoption, only 57% say AI has yet measurably affected leasing strategy, yet changing AI automation is seen as the top future influence. Flexible workspaces are set to grow, with 67% planning to add flex space within two years, supporting a “core + flex” model that balances long-term needs with cost flexibility. Finally, commute infrastructure remains a priority, with 70% emphasizing it in location decisions and 95% viewing traffic congestion as a threat to operations and employee experience.
