CCTV captures Mumbai crash that killed woman and injured six at busy junction

Surveillance video from a Malad West intersection shows a car colliding with a motorcycle and three waiting autorickshaws at the Mamlatdarwadi-SV Road signal shortly after 8 p.m. on Sunday. The pillion passenger, 34-year-old law graduate Priyanka Satra, was thrown from the bike and later pronounced dead, while her husband Mayank suffered broken bones and spinal injuries. The crash also injured the drivers and passengers of three autorickshaws.

Police detained 70-year-old driver Krishna Chamankar, who claimed he inadvertently hit the gas instead of the brake while traveling from the Malad subway toward SV Road; a medical exam found no alcohol in his system. He appeared before a magistrate and was released on a cash bond of Rs 15,000. The victim’s family has called for stricter action, alleging preferential treatment for the driver while in custody, a claim that authorities are reviewing through additional CCTV footage.
