Celebrity disclosures boost use of prostate cancer risk checker in the UK

Jeremy Clarkson, now in remission, described his prostate cancer as aggressive and said sharing his story was worthwhile if it encouraged any man to act. Lord Cameron echoed this sentiment, supporting awareness efforts and urging men to use the quick online risk checker. Prostate Cancer UK observed a dramatic rise in usage: after Clarkson’s interview, nearly 50,880 men completed the tool in one week, up from 8,425 the prior week, while Lord Cameron’s announcement led to 22,562 checks the next day, compared with 2,175 the previous Monday.

The charity also cited a wave of 280,000 checks in the two months after Sir Chris Hoy’s diagnosis. Since its introduction, more than five million men have accessed the checker, and the charity stresses that early detection improves treatment outcomes.
