Celtic and Rangers to Host Upcoming Scottish Cup Ties Behind Closed Doors
Both Celtic and Rangers have been ordered to play their next home Scottish Cup games without spectators and must each pay £100,000 to their opponents.
Following fan disturbances during last season's quarter-final, the governing body mandated that Celtic and Rangers host their forthcoming home fixtures in the Scottish Cup without any supporters present. In addition, each club is required to remit a £100,000 payment to the team they will face in those matches. A repeat offence could trigger a second closed-door game for either side. The quarter-final saw Celtic advance after a penalty shoot-out at Ibrox, during which supporters from both clubs invaded the pitch, leading to several arrests.
Why it matters
The sanctions affect two of Scotland's biggest clubs, limiting fan attendance and imposing financial penalties for crowd trouble.
