Center Party chief urges Kristersson to take on new exploratory mandate
Center Party leader Thand Ringqvist said it makes sense for Ulf Kristersson to receive the next exploratory assignment as Sweden prepares a new speaker election.
Speaking at the opening of parliament, Thand Ringqvist argued that Kristersson should be tasked with exploring coalition options. She recalled that her predecessor Annie Lööf was given a similar mandate in 2018. The call comes after Social Democratic leader Magdalena Andersson withdrew her first attempt to form a government, prompting a fresh speaker vote in which the Left Party pledged support for Moderate candidate Andreas Norlén.
Why it matters
The choice of who explores coalition options will shape Sweden's next government formation.
