Central Prosecutor's Office assumes control of gold convoy investigation

The Central Prosecutor's Office has taken over the probe into the gold convoy case, citing the illegal detention of the victim.

A recent communiqué from the chief prosecutor's office announced that the Central Prosecutor's Office will assume responsibility for the gold convoy investigation. The probe began after allegations of illegal detention tied to the harassment of a victim. The deputy chief prosecutor exercised the authority granted by the prosecutor's law to reassign the case for efficiency.

Ongoing criminal proceedings that were previously under the Budapest Prosecutor's Office will now be managed by the Central Prosecutor's Investigation Division. Officials stressed that the investigation will examine every facet of the case, irrespective of who or which entities are implicated.

Why it matters

Shifting the case to a higher authority may affect its scope and outcome.
