CEO of fruit-trade firm to face charges over RM1.65 million durian orchard fraud

A fruit-and-vegetable wholesale CEO was arrested and is set to be charged today for a RM1.65 million durian orchard scam.

A senior manager of a fruit and vegetable wholesale, import and export company was arrested after providing a statement at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office in Putrajaya. The suspect, described as being in his 50s, is accused of orchestrating a fraudulent purchase of a durian orchard that was never completed, involving roughly RM1.65 million. MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman announced that the investigation, which traces back to February 2024, will see the accused charged today at Shah Alam Court in Selangor under Section 420 of the Penal Code.

This prosecution follows MACC’s earlier “Op Kingfruit” operation that targeted a durian investment scam in Raub, Pahang, resulting in the freezing of bank accounts and seizure of assets valued at RM16.15 million. The upcoming court appearance marks the next step in the agency’s crackdown on agricultural investment fraud.
