Ceuta courts launch dozens of sexual assault investigations after migrant surge

According to a statement from the General Council of the Judiciary, Ceuta's courts have filed 37 separate investigations into sexual assault allegations, covering 39 victims, including 14 minors. The investigations involve 37 alleged male offenders, 18 of whom remain unidentified while the remaining 19 are adults. The influx of migrants has overwhelmed the local justice system, leading the Andalusian High Court to collaborate with the Council to reinforce the Ceuta court staff.

Additionally, the state prosecutor Teresa Peramato announced the deployment of three mainland prosecutors to help alleviate the backlog. The court has processed 28 active cases with 30 identified victims, while eight cases were temporarily closed and one merged with prior proceedings.
