Ceuta residents set up mock camps to demand end to migrant settlements

On a Saturday morning, a crowd of Ceuta inhabitants assembled in Plaza de los Reyes, surrounding themselves with over ten temporary tents that mimic the migrant camps on local beaches. Residents such as Josefa Heredia, who recounts a recent harassment incident, and Noelia Alcázar, a community organiser, voiced fears over safety, strained health services and the loss of normalcy. They stressed that their protest is not driven by racism but by the perceived mishandling of the situation by authorities.

The demonstrators waved Spanish flags and wore clothing emblazoned with Ceuta imagery, underscoring their claim to the city’s identity. While public forces were present, protestors criticised the government's response as inadequate and announced plans for another rally at the Tarajal border in the coming days.
