Ceuta's Faith Groups Unite for Peaceful Rally Against New Migrant Surge

In response to a recent surge of migrants crossing from Morocco into the Spanish enclave, Ceuta’s Christian, Jewish, Muslim and Hindu communities have coordinated a peaceful rally for Sunday night at Constitution Square. The gathering, branded with the chant “Enough, Ceuta does not give up,” aims to present a manifesto that calls on Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s socialist administration and the European Union to take decisive steps to prevent further entries.

Organisers anticipate about 20,000 residents will attend, and the local government has announced its participation, framing the march as a testament to the city’s historic values of coexistence and solidarity. Speakers such as Mercedes Canca, Samuel Levy and Ramesh Chandiramani highlighted the strain on security and the perceived neglect of Ceuta’s residents. The protest follows reports that most of the estimated 72,000 migrants who arrived last week have already left, though thousands remain in the city’s streets.
