Ceuta teacher warns schools of unsafe conditions amid migrant influx
Teacher David Muñoz says the start of the school year in Ceuta is far from normal, citing massive migrant arrivals and daily sirens.
In a radio interview, veteran teacher David Muñoz described the back-to-school atmosphere in Ceuta as anything but normal after a wave of migrants arrived during the summer. He relayed concerns from parents, fellow teachers and WhatsApp groups, some even hinting at strikes, over daily sirens and safety gaps. Muñoz challenged Education Minister Milagros Tolón’s assurances of full security for the 35 local schools, noting the minister has never visited Ceuta.
He recounted an episode where migrants forced their way into a vocational training centre and mentioned students, including older pupils, voicing fear on Instagram. The teacher also highlighted the neglect of special-education students, citing a case of a pupil losing autonomy due to the constant police presence. Concluding, Muñoz urged the media to keep reporting on the city’s abnormal situation.
