CGT calls for coordinated strikes across police, EDF workers and university staff
On Tuesday, the CGT organized simultaneous actions by police, EDF employees and university personnel demanding better pay, working conditions and social protections.
The CGT announced a coordinated day of action targeting multiple professions, including police, EDF employees, hospital staff and university teachers. Police unions are pressing for a revision of the risk premium that has not been updated since 2019, while EDF workers aim to preserve their historic "tarif agent" compensation. Hospital workers in Nantes will rally against salaries below the minimum wage and call for an end to bed cuts, and university staff will protest chronic under-funding of higher education and research.
Demonstrations are planned in Paris on the Champs-Élysées, in Nîmes outside the police headquarters, and in other regional centers. Environmental and civil-society groups will also gather later in the day to demand climate-related budget measures. The unions collectively seek higher salaries, improved working conditions and stronger social and environmental policies.
Why it matters
The coordinated protests highlight growing discontent over wages and funding across key public sectors in France.
