In the first matchday of the Champions League group stage, Bayern Munich and Manchester United posted convincing victories, while Como impressed with a 4-1 debut win over Leipzig.

The Champions League group phase opened with Bayern Munich finally breaking a goalless first half against Bodø Glimt, then exploding for five goals in the second period to claim a 5-0 victory. Manchester United faced little resistance from Shabab Al-Ahli, securing a clean 4-0 win. In Italy, Como made a statement on debut, beating Leipzig 4-1 at the Juventus Stadium; Tasos Doumbikas opened the scoring, assisted the first goal and added a second before halftime.

Lille needed a late surge to edge Lens 3-2 in Prague, while other matches ended in draws or narrow wins, such as the 2-2 stalemate between Schalke and Roma. Overall, the opening day delivered a mix of dominant performances and thrilling finishes across the continent.
