Channi hails Sachin Pilot’s new role as Punjab Congress in-charge, citing fresh hope

Charanjit Singh Channi welcomed Sachin Pilot’s elevation to Congress general secretary overseeing Punjab, calling him a good leader who sparks fresh hope among party cadres before the 2027 Assembly elections. In Delhi, Channi, along with Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and MLA Barindermeet Singh Pahra, met Pilot and expressed belief that his presence will benefit the party’s prospects. Channi emphasized that decisions about the state president, currently Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, are made by the party high command, denying any personal push for removal.

The recent organisational shake-up also saw Bhupesh Baghel shifted to Assam and Pilot transferred from Chhattisgarh. Factional tensions within the Punjab Congress have risen since the July 1 decision to retain Warring and appoint Channi as campaign chair, but leaders like Warring and Raj Kumar Verka have publicly welcomed Pilot’s new role.
