Chargers coaches wear Nike tees to champion women's sports amid online trolling
Los Angeles Chargers coaches displayed Nike shirts urging support for women's sports during a practice event, which was later mocked on social media.
The Los Angeles Chargers organized a women-in-sports day at The Bolt, where head coach Jim Harbaugh, offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel and defensive coordinator Chris O’Leary each wore Nike shirts proclaiming “EVERYONE WATCHES WOMEN’S SPORTS.” The event, supported by Togethxr, UCLA, the Los Angeles Sparks and Angel City F.C., offered attendees posters, stickers and friendship bracelets, and featured a “Future Is Female” panel along with youth flag-football activities.
An X user later photoshopped McDaniel’s shirt to read “Nobody Watches Women’s Sports,” a post that amassed more than 1.5 million views but was largely seen as a trolling effort. The Chargers’ next preseason matchup is against the San Francisco 49ers, coached by former Chargers offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. The team hopes to secure its first playoff win in the Harbaugh era and a postseason victory for quarterback Justin Herbert in 2026.
Why it matters
The event highlights growing support for women's sports and shows how public figures can counter online harassment.
