Charlie Dean named captain as England women head to ODI series against Ireland
England's women's cricket team will be led by Charlie Dean for a three-match ODI series versus Ireland in September, with regular captain Nat Sciver-Brunt and other senior players rested.
England's women's side will field Charlie Dean as captain for a three-match ODI series against Ireland scheduled for early September. Regular skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt, along with senior bowlers Sophie Ecclestone, Lauren Bell and Amy Jones, are being rested, while Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Sciver-Brunt manage fitness concerns. The 15-player roster introduces uncapped seam bowler Grace Potts and wicket-keeper Kira Chathli, and gives opportunities to all-rounder Charis Pavely, pace bowler Ryana MacDonald-Gay—who last appeared in the 2025 Ashes—and 18-year-old spinner Tilly Corteen-Coleman, the joint-leading wicket-taker in the current Hundred season.
Charlotte Edwards said the series offers a valuable platform for players to showcase their 50-over abilities following the team's T20 World Cup final appearance. The matches will be played in Leicester on 1 September, Derby on 3 September and Worcester on 6 September, with a full squad list that includes Maia Bouchier, Alice Capsey, Sophia Dunkley, Lauren Filer, Dani Gibson, Jodi Grewcock, Freya Kemp, Mady Villiers and Issy Wong.
Why it matters
The series provides England's women a chance to test new talent and build depth ahead of future international competitions.
