Cheboygan Chiefs fall to Mancelona in Pellston Invitational semifinals
Cheboygan’s volleyball team reached the Pellston Invitational semifinals but lost to Mancelona in three sets on Aug. 23.
Cheboygan’s volleyball squad entered the Pellston Invitational with hopes of defending their title and made it to the semifinals after a 3-1-1 record in pool and bracket play, including wins over Mackinaw City and East Jordan. In the semifinal, they were edged out by Mancelona in a three-set match, falling 21-25, 25-11, 12-15. Coach Jordan Barrette noted the difficulty of a three-hour break before the bracket round but commended the team’s resilience and cohesion.
He singled out Diem Schley for her 22 kills and 50 digs, while also recognizing contributions from Maddie Long, Lydia Kosanke, Sophia Naden, Abby Schulz and other players. Bellaire ultimately captured the tournament title, defeating Mancelona in the championship match.
