Chelsea eyes long-term deal for Shim Mheuka as loan move looms
Shim Mheuka is set to sign a contract through 2033 with Chelsea and is expected to seek a temporary loan abroad this summer.
Chelsea plans to secure Shim Mheuka on a long-term contract that runs to 2033 following his standout season in which he netted 17 goals in 17 Under-21 games. The club expects him to complete the agreement before arranging a temporary move away from Stamford Bridge this summer. While more than a dozen European and Championship clubs have shown interest, a loan is preferred, especially to mainland Europe rather than within England.
The presence of senior forwards Joao Pedro, Danny Welbeck, Liam Delap, Nicolas Jackson, Emmanuel Emegha and Marc Guiu, along with promising youngster Dastan Satpayev, restricts Mheuka’s senior opportunities at Chelsea this season. Consequently, a loan is seen as the best route for his continued development.
Why it matters
Mheuka's loan could shape his growth and affect Chelsea's future attacking options.
