Chelsea manager Alonso vows to find attacking options after Joao Pedro's thigh injury

Xabi Alonso said Chelsea will seek solutions, not excuses, after striker Joao Pedro was sidelined with a thigh injury ahead of the Carabao Cup tie at Liverpool.

Chelsea's manager Xabi Alonso emphasized a solutions-focused approach after Joao Pedro suffered a thigh injury in training, ruling him out for several weeks and causing his absence in the recent defeat to Tottenham. The striker, who has contributed five league goals, will also miss the Carabao Cup clash with Liverpool at Anfield. Alonso said the club will depend on players such as Danny Welbeck and the newly signed Emmanuel Emegha, who is now fit to make his first appearance after a hamstring setback.

He also noted that Morgan Rogers was used in an unfamiliar striker role and Geovany Quenda featured on the wing in the Tottenham game. With Cole Palmer suspended for the Liverpool match, Alonso believes the squad depth will allow Chelsea to remain competitive despite the attacking injuries.

Why it matters

Chelsea's ability to cope with key injuries will affect their performance in both the Premier League and cup competitions.
