Chester Zoo apologises after ticket label mistakenly called "child predator tour"

Chester Zoo faced online ridicule after its website listed a guided big-cat experience as a “child predator tour”.

Chester Zoo in Cheshire introduced a 90-minute early-morning guided tour of its big-cat and predator habitats, priced at £30 for adults and £25 for children. The online booking page mistakenly labeled the children’s option as a “child predator tour”, sparking widespread jokes and criticism across platforms like X and Reddit. Commentators ridiculed the phrasing and wondered about the lack of editorial review.

A zoo spokesperson explained that the ticket names were generated by a default system, not manually created, and the listing was updated promptly after the mistake was highlighted. Despite the embarrassment, the tour—offering close encounters with a Sumatran tiger family and Komodo dragons—continues to be offered under a corrected name.

Why it matters

The incident shows how automated systems can produce embarrassing errors that damage a brand’s reputation.
