Chicago police hunt suspect who attacked rider with chemical irritant and antisemitic slurs
The Chicago Police Department is asking the public to help identify a man who allegedly assaulted a passenger on a Red Line train while shouting antisemitic remarks.
Authorities issued a community alert on Tuesday seeking information to locate a suspect involved in an assault on a Chicago Transit Authority Red Line train. The incident took place at approximately 6:55 p.m. on Aug. 25 in the Rogers Park neighborhood. According to police, the attacker approached a 32-year-old male passenger, discharged a chemical irritant toward him, and then punched him in the face while uttering antisemitic remarks.
The suspect is described as a black male between 40 and 55 years old, wearing a security cap, a blue jacket over a yellow work vest, and dark pants. The Chicago Police Department emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and urged anyone with relevant details to come forward. This assault adds to a tally of 18 anti-Jewish hate crimes reported in Chicago so far this year, following 47 incidents in 2025.
