Chief Executive John Lee told the Executive Council that the defective lifts in the newly constructed clinical block of Queen Mary Hospital have delayed the start of medical services. He has instructed the Development Bureau to conduct a comprehensive inquiry and deliver findings within a month. Lee emphasized that accountability will extend to contractors, subcontractors, engineering personnel, professional consultants, and any government officials implicated.
The investigation will also examine whether systemic flaws contributed to the problem and recommend corrective measures. He stressed the urgency of fixing the lifts so the facility can begin providing healthcare without further postponement. The statement was made during the weekly council meeting.
