Child-rights office urges restraint after school stabbing leaves teacher dead

A knife attack at a vocational school in Ostrołęka injured several students and teachers, killing a 37-year-old staff member, and prompted the child-rights office to call for careful reporting and offer psychological support.

A violent incident unfolded at a vocational school in Ostrołęka when 19-year-old Jakub Z. stabbed five students and two teachers before fleeing and injuring two additional individuals in a nearby park. The school director intervened, disabling the attacker but also sustaining injuries. Emergency responders attempted resuscitation on a 37-year-old staff member, who later succumbed to her wounds.

Monika Horna-Cieślak, spokesperson for the child-rights protection office (RPD), posted condolences for the deceased teacher from Leszczydol-Nowiny and affirmed ongoing psychological and legal assistance for affected children and adolescents. She thanked city officials, the prosecutor, police, and the education authority for their swift response, and called for the public to refrain from posting graphic images that could fuel panic. RPD also announced a webinar with psychologist Aleksandra Maciopa and mentioned a draft law to ban the online distribution of graphic footage from tragedies.
