Children's deaths attributed to drug mix and asphyxiation, suspect detained
Coroners said the two children died from mechanical asphyxia and a combination of drugs, and the accused is being held without bail.
Medical examiners concluded that the children’s deaths were caused by mechanical asphyxia combined with several medications, including zolpidem, acetaminophen, ibuprofen and lorazepam. After the incident, the accused traveled to an aunt’s residence in Bennington, Vermont, appearing hysterical and injured, and reportedly admitted to the killings while police were present. She told authorities she had strangled the children and then attempted suicide.
The suspect is being held without bail at the Western Massachusetts Regional Women’s Correctional Center in Chicopee. Her next court appearance is scheduled for November 3 at Norfolk Superior Court, and she faces a potential life sentence without parole if convicted of first-degree murder. A not-guilty plea was previously entered at a May hearing in Dedham District Court.
