Chilean Director Patricio Valladares to Film Dante-Inspired Horror Epic in Rome

Chilean filmmaker Patricio Valladares, known for the 2023 found-footage horror “Invoking Yell,” is set to direct a new fantasy-horror version of Dante Alighieri’s Inferno, called “The Divine Comedy.” The film, produced by Italy’s Anxur Films in partnership with Ireland’s Skincrawl Studios, follows a grieving writer named Dante and a former priest, Virgil, as they descend through the circles of Hell to find Dante’s beloved Beatrice.

Valladares promises visuals that push bodily pain to extremes reminiscent of “Hellraiser” and “Frontier(s),” while grounding the story in themes of loss and devotion. The ensemble features Christopher Rygh, Matthew Metcalfe, Tilda Metsola and Fadhillah Othman, with principal photography slated for Sept. 7 in Rome. Prior to the shoot, Valladares will debut “Invoking Scream,” the sequel to “Invoking Yell,” at London’s FrightFest, and he is also developing an FMV horror game through his Vallastudio Films studio.
