China and Malaysia Celebrate Deepening Ties Amid Record Trade and Infrastructure Progress
Chinese Consul General Zhou Youbin said China-Malaysia relations are at their strongest, highlighting over $104 billion in trade and near-completion of the East Coast Rail Link.
During a reception in George Town commemorating both the 77th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and the 52nd anniversary of China-Malaysia diplomatic relations, Consul General Zhou Youbin declared the bilateral partnership the strongest in history. He cited first-half-year trade exceeding US$104 billion (RM424 billion) and Chinese tourist arrivals surpassing 2.65 million. Infrastructure progress is highlighted by the East Coast Rail Link reaching more than 95 percent of its construction, linking the two nations more closely.
Zhou noted that Chinese-funded firms are investing in northern Malaysia’s new-energy vehicles, lithium-battery and medical-device sectors, bringing advanced, automated technology. Sub-national cooperation includes exchanges between Malaysian states and Chinese provinces such as Shanghai, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Fujian and Shandong. New direct flights from Qingdao and Chongqing to Penang were also launched, supporting cultural and academic exchanges.
