China and Malaysia Elevate Ties to Strategic Community with Shared Future

During a ceremony in Kuala Lumpur, outgoing ambassador Ouyang Yujing outlined how China-Malaysia relations have progressed from a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to a community with a shared future, and now to a high-level strategic community. He cited President Xi Jinping’s April state visit as launching a "Golden 50 Years" era, while Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s meeting with Premier Li Qiang produced new consensus on win-win cooperation.

Trade between the two nations is expected to rise from US$131.16 billion in 2020 to almost US$200 billion in 2025, maintaining China as Malaysia’s top trading partner for 17 years. Ouyang noted the East Coast Rail Link is over 95 % complete and that Malaysia’s second 5G network, built with Chinese expertise, is expanding nationwide. Cooperation is also expanding into semiconductors, AI, data centres and electric vehicles, positioning the partnership as a model for regional development.
