China moves ahead with massive outer-ring highway linking three major routes
China plans to complete a near-continuous outer-ring road by 2030, joining the G331, G219 and G228 highways across diverse terrain.
By 2030 China intends to finish an outer-ring highway that stitches together three existing national routes: the northern G331, the western G219 and the coastal G228. The corridor will cut across deserts, steppes, high mountain ranges and tropical zones, linking border areas with major seaports. The scheme is designed to enhance mobility for residents of distant provinces and to create alternative paths for freight if a segment is disrupted.
Planners also envision tighter integration of inland trade routes with the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor and Eurasian rail links. The initiative is presented as both a tourism attraction and a strategic boost to China’s role in global commerce.
