China overwhelms Malaysia 6-1 in opening match of Women’s Asia Junior Cup
China defeated Malaysia 6-1 in the opening elite-group game of the 2026 Women’s Hockey Asia Junior Cup, with Malaysia’s only goal coming from a penalty corner.
The 2026 Women’s Hockey Asia Junior Cup began its elite-group stage in Hulunbuir City’s Moqi Training Base with a commanding display by the host nation. China routed Malaysia 6-1, finding the net in the 13th, 24th, 38th, 45th, 46th and 50th minutes via Qi Chenchen, Nie Yushuo, Feng Jiaxin, Wei Qixiao, Chen Jiani and Wang Lihang. The Malaysian squad, nicknamed the Young Tigress and led by coach Mohamed Nasihin Nubli Ibrahim, managed only one goal, a penalty-corner conversion by Nurain Atiqah Mohd Fauzi in the 48th minute.
The defeat leaves Malaysia trailing in the group as they prepare for a showdown with India on Sunday morning. In another elite-group fixture, Japan beat South Korea 2-0. The tournament will continue with further group matches later in the week.
