China's CXMT launches mass-production of fifth-generation DRAM platform

CXMT said its new fifth-generation DRAM platform has moved into mass production, offering denser, lower-cost memory chips for devices.

At the 2026 World Manufacturing Convention in Hefei, CXMT revealed that its fifth-generation DRAM platform has entered mass production, marking a claimed breakthrough for China's semiconductor sector. The new process shrinks key memory features to 11.95 nm using quadruple patterning, allowing tighter data-cell spacing and higher wafer yields—up to 50 % more gross dies compared with the previous generation. CXMT also introduced two 24-gigabit LPDDR5X chips built on the platform, each delivering 50 % more capacity than earlier models and targeting smartphones and portable electronics.

Vice-president Luo Xiaodong said the capability now matches the most advanced mass-produced nodes worldwide. The move aims to give device makers an additional domestic source of DRAM and supports Beijing's broader effort to lessen dependence on foreign semiconductor technology amid U.S. export restrictions.
