Chinese influencer deported from Taiwan after illegal surrogacy promotion for gay couples

A Chinese social-media figure who advertised surrogacy services for same-sex couples was expelled from Taiwan and fined NT$200,000.

Kaohsiung authorities detained a Chinese influencer who used his Instagram and Douyin platforms to promote meet-ups and information on surrogacy for same-sex couples. The health bureau judged his posts to breach the Medical Care Act, which bars non-medical entities from advertising medical procedures, and imposed a NT$200,000 fine reflecting his wide reach. The National Immigration Agency then ordered his deportation, citing misuse of a tourist visa for activities inconsistent with its purpose.

Taiwan’s Assisted Reproduction Act outlines strict criteria for providers and recipients, and currently forbids commercial surrogacy. Officials urged anyone seeking fertility assistance to consult licensed medical institutions and physicians. The influencer, who lives with his partner in Malaysia, has previously shared his own family-building experience through egg donation and surrogacy.
