Chocolate eyeball candy recalled nationwide over undisclosed milk allergen
A New Jersey confectioner is recalling its "Crystal Temptations" chocolate eyeball candy sold at several retailers because the product contains undeclared milk, posing a risk to people with milk allergies.
Crystal Temptations, a candy maker based in New Jersey, has launched a recall of its chocolate eyeball confection after discovering that the packaging failed to disclose the presence of milk. The product was sold at Marshalls, TJ Maxx, HomeGoods and Sierra Trading Post and shipped to stores in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Wyoming.
The Food and Drug Administration cautioned that the undeclared milk could trigger serious or life-threatening allergic reactions in individuals with a severe milk allergy, although no cases have been reported so far. The issue was identified by an analyst and linked to a temporary breakdown in the company's production and packaging processes. Shoppers are advised to destroy the candy and can obtain a refund by contacting Crystal Temptations with proof of purchase; the retailers will not issue refunds.
