Christian legal group urges federal probe of Pennsbury's concealment of student’s gender identity
Liberty Counsel has filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education accusing the Penn sbury School District of hiding a student’s use of a different name and pronouns from the child’s parents for nearly three years.
Liberty Counsel submitted a grievance to the U.S. Department of Education claiming the Penn sbury School District concealed a student’s gender-identity-related name change from the parents for almost three school years. The complaint says staff called the student by a male name and pronouns from ninth grade onward, a fact the parents only discovered through memory books in junior year. Although the district later pledged to use the child’s legal name at graduation, it refused to change its policy requiring parental notification of such changes.
The legal filing alleges breaches of FERPA, the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment and Title IX. The case is part of a wider Trump-era effort to scrutinize school practices that support transgender students, including recent DOJ lawsuits and Education Department investigations in other states.
