Cilia Flores seeks house arrest in New York citing heart condition
Cilia Flores, the wife of deposed Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, asked a New York court to allow her to serve her detention at a private residence due to cardiac problems.
In a filing with a New York court, Cilia Flores, aged 69, asked that she be transferred from federal custody to a private New York residence. She said her heart condition requires complex treatment unavailable at the detention center. The proposed arrangement would involve round-the-clock armed security, a location-tracking bracelet, restricted visitation and supervised telephone communications. Flores is currently detained as part of the legal proceedings against her and her husband, former President Nicolás Maduro. Her lawyers contend that the current prison environment is unsuitable for her health needs.
