Cineplex Announces Sale Review and Appoints Former Landmark CEO Bill Walker
Cineplex said it will explore a sale and other options while naming Bill Walker, former Landmark Cinemas chief, as its new CEO.
Cineplex disclosed that its board has begun a strategic review of the company’s future, engaging Goldman Sachs and TD Securities to evaluate options such as a sale. In the same announcement, Ellis Jacob announced his retirement and will remain as a special advisor, while Bill Walker, previously CEO of Landmark Cinemas and instrumental in its 2017 sale to Kinepolis, was appointed the new chief executive. The Canadian exhibitor, which operates about 1,606 screens at 156 locations, is revisiting a sale after a failed $2.1 billion takeover by Cineworld that was abandoned during the pandemic. No timeline was provided for the review and the company said operations will continue unchanged.
Why it matters
