Circleback launches free tier to boost user base amid meeting-note market surge
Y Combinator-backed Circleback introduced a free plan that offers unlimited meeting transcription but limits history to 30 days, aiming to draw more users.
In response to growing competition in the meeting-note-taking space, Circleback announced a free subscription tier that provides unlimited transcription of meetings but only retains transcript history for the past 30 days. The complimentary plan also includes mobile and Apple Watch applications, AI-driven transcript search, and integrations with Linear and Slack. Users seeking unlimited history, full API access, and additional integrations must upgrade to paid plans beginning at $14 per month when billed annually.
Founded in 2023 by Ali Haghani and Kevin Jacyna, the Y Combinator-backed company secured $2.5 million in 2024 funding and claims profitability with a run-rate of about $8 million across its eight-person team. Previously, Circleback offered no free option and its lowest paid tier cost $20.83 per month. Haghani said the free tier will serve as marketing, replacing a trial that caused a sharp user drop-off, and the firm is not actively seeking new capital unless a clear need arises.
Why it matters
The free tier lets a small startup compete with larger players by lowering entry barriers for AI-driven meeting notes.
