Citrini backs biotech equities after AI-driven protein design shows promising toxin binding

Citrini Research said its Claude-based AI project produced 17 protein designs that bound scorpion toxins, leading the firm to recommend life-science stocks such as Revvity and Tecan Group.

Citrini Research spent $200,000 on a three-month collaboration with Anthropic’s internal Claude model, prompting the AI to spawn over 300 sub-agents that designed 211 proteins for laboratory testing. After synthesis by Twist Bioscience and Adaptyv Bio, 17 of the candidates bound to targets across four scorpion toxins, with two (Cn2-B1 and Cn2-B2) achieving low-nanomolar affinity. No experiments have yet demonstrated that these proteins neutralize the toxins, and the firm cautioned that substantial scientific work remains before any therapeutic claim can be made.

Based on the promising binding results, Citrini upgraded its outlook on the life-sciences sector, labeling it a "secular story at cyclical lows" and recommending stocks such as Revvity, Charles River Laboratories and Tecan Group. The firm highlighted the expanding role of AI "virtual biologists" and suggested that any company invoicing these systems could see rising demand. Anthropic has released a technical blog and data set on the project, and its Claude Science platform, launched in July, is already being tested in a collaboration with Novo Nordisk.
