Cîțu claims BNR report disproves Bolojan government's fiscal narrative
Former premier Florin Cîțu says the National Bank of Romania's latest report contradicts the Bolojan government's claims about budget responsibility.
Former prime minister Florin Cîțu, who has a background in finance, reacted to the National Bank of Romania's annual report released on 29 September. He posted that the data confirms the Bolojan government's strategy of moving fiscal responsibility onto the private sector, which has felt the brunt of recent austerity measures. Cîțu highlighted that the report shows many households spend more than their current income and criticized the government's claim that the country lives on debt, accusing it of blaming citizens and businesses.
Governor Mugau Isărescu warned that fiscal-budget consolidation is crucial for preserving Romania's credibility, noting that loss of credibility can have far-reaching effects. The analysis is part of the Economic@BNR project coordinated by Vice-Governor Cosine Marinescu. Cîțu’s comments frame the report as evidence of deceptive government rhetoric.
